1940s Styled Engagement Session

Kat Barnett from Cakes by Kat Bakeshop is a good friend of mine and a fabulous baker. When she asked me to photograph the 1940s styled engagement session that she was designing, I couldn’t say no! I love working with Kat and the finished product always comes out great.

You would never know from the photos, but we actually had the shoot at Kat’s apartment complex! There is a beautiful spot with trees and a creek that was perfect for the picnic setting. Kat did an amazing job at designing everything. The colors and props for the shoot went really well together and you definitely get that 1940s feel.

Swanky Wishes provided the majority of the props. The coke bottles actually have coke in them! I’m really into antiques and older things, so that was cool to see. I was so nervous to handle them though because I didn’t want to drop them. The suitcases also went perfectly with Kat’s vision, however; I think my favorite prop was the “All of me loves all of you” sign. Bloomtastic Florals provided the beautiful flowers that fit right into the picnic scene. I’m so happy that Spring was starting to pop up and the weather was perfect for a picnic!

On top of creating and hosting this shoot, Kat also baked all the desserts. Her baked goods not only taste amazing, but they’re always so pretty! The cake and macarons were my favorite; I love all the detail she puts into her work. Jesse and Christian did a fantastic job at modeling for us. They were super laid back and we all had a great time! Jesse and Christian are getting married in September; I’m so excited for them!

I’ve photographed a lot of styled shoots the past two years as well as designed my own. As a wedding vendor, I really enjoy working with other vendors to create art! This styled shoot is one of my favorites that I’ve photographed.
