Mays vendor of the month is Kat Barnett from Cakes by Kat Bakeshop. I’ve had the privilege of working with Kat on multiple styled shoots and we’ve become close friends. I actually just photographed a 1940s inspired styled engagement shoot she designed that turned out great!
One of my favorite things about Kat is her mission to promote inclusivity and celebrate equality. She believes that fear of discrimination should not be a factor when hiring your wedding vendors and she’s totally right. Kat bakes amazing cakes, macarons, and sugar cookies. Everything I have tried that she has baked has been amazing. Her chocolate cake is to die for! It’s so moist and practically melts in your mouth. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
When I asked Kat what she loves most about her job, she said, “I am passionate about using my artistic skills to create edible works of art, and I am also passionate about promoting equality and making a difference in my community. I have decided to blend both of my passions into a socially conscious baking business where we promote equality through quality desserts. I enjoy meeting other boss babes and forming connections to support locally owned entrepreneurs. When it comes to the details of baking, I most enjoy having free range to decorate and experiment with the different mediums. It is therapeutic for me to hand paint my desserts. Another aspect of my job that I love is being my own boss. I am able to have control over my schedule and it has reduced my stress level tremendously. Lastly, I enjoy teaching others during my decorating classes and seeing their excitement when they master a technique! Above all, I love being able to make a difference.”
I believe in Kat’s mission and love her work so much that I always recommend her company for wedding cakes! All my couples receive 15% off their wedding order with Cakes by Kat Bakeshop.
